On Creating a Winning Medical Assistant Resume

If you have just gotten your degree from a medical assistant degree program and have your diploma with you, it may be time to start writing your medical assistant resume. However, before taking this step, it's a good idea to take the certification exam which is offered in January, June and October of every year. This provides a huge advantage over those applicants who are non-certified, and looks impressive on your resume. A second thing which looks impressive is an internship, so it's really advantageous if your college arranged for one before your graduation.

While resume writing skills may be covered in brief as part of your medical assistant training, there are some other tips you may not know that can be helpful. For example, never use plain white or colored paper when printing your resume. At every office supply store you will find resume paper. It is heavier and somewhat gray in color, it gives your resume the ultra professional touch you need. Also, stay simple with your fonts and use black ink for easy readability.

Most people who are in charge of hiring medical assistants are very busy and don't have time to read lengthly materials. So, keep things short and to the point without leaving anything out. The first thing medical assistant resumes should contain is a history of your education and certification. Some people put an Objective on their resume first, others do not. Next you'll list your work history and any special skills you possess. You should also write a cover letter that is a bit more personal and lets the employer know more about your education and skills while getting a hint of your personality.

There are all kinds of resume templates online and available with word processing software programs. You can create your own medical assistant resume or hire a professional resume writer to do it for you. This is probably not necessary because of the vast volume of helpful information available about writing resumes that get attention in a good way. Your resume and cover letter is the first impression a potential employer gets of you, so make sure it is a favorable one. You might also want to study up on interviewing skills because if your resume is good you are likely to get called in for a job interview, often the last step before hiring.
